HackPGH’s largest Shop Area is a spacious 28’ × 34’ workspace with woodworking machines, hand tools, hardware, work surfaces, and temporary project storage.

Nearly all of the Woodshop’s large equipment was less than two years old when this list was updated in July 2026. Follow the posted rules and the use requirements listed for each machine.
SawStop PCS175
Features: Extended fence, folding outfeed table, SawStop 8” Premium Dado Set, combination and ripping blades, push blocks, and push sticks.

Grizzly G1003 (1993 base model, refurbished in 2025)
Features: 20” × 8” capacity, two automatic feeds, 20” × 26” table with cast-iron wings, and a Byrd Tool Shelix helical cutterhead installed in August 2025.

Grizzly G1026
Features: Spindle speeds from 7,000–10,000 RPM, ½”, ¾”, and 1” spindles, three table inserts, and a miter gauge. Maximum cutter height: 2½”. Maximum cutter diameter: 5½”.
Dust collection: 3” dust port.
Note: Use the smallest table opening that accommodates the cutter to support the workpiece and reduce falling chips.

The Bosch sander connects directly to the Festool Extractor or to the Shop Vac with the purple adaptor. DeWALT sanders use the black Festool adaptor or yellow Shop Vac adaptor.
These tools do not require training.

The largest open work area sits on raised, non-slip platforms directly in front of the garage door, making it easier to load and unload large materials and projects.
Built by HackPGH woodworkers in 2025 and topped with Douglas fir. It has two cabinetmaker vises, bench-dog holes, and a center gap for clamps or hand planes. This is the primary table for hand-tool woodworking and sanding.
A laminate-topped table protected by three silicone non-stick mats for glue-ups, painting, and staining. Put down contractor paper before gluing or staining; the roll is attached to the garage-side end.
Handmade cabinets store powered hand tools, sandpaper, and large-equipment accessories. Black-laminate work surfaces on either side of the miter saw are each 76” wide and 27” deep.
Stores much of the shop’s small hardware and hand tools. Its solid-wood work surface is 49” wide and 18” deep.
The “Octocollector” is an Oneida 5 HP Dust Gorilla Pro SMART Boost with a 55-gallon collection barrel, overhead ducting, and drops to eight equipment ports. A red light and alarm indicate when the barrel is full.
A wall-mounted Rockler 1.5 HP Dust Right collector with a 1,250 CFM canister filter, currently connected to the combo sander and shaper.
A wheeled system that separates larger chips above while the extractor collects fine dust below.
Uses Type A bags and filters with one to five layers. Adaptors are available for most benchtop equipment that is not connected to a dust collector.
Two three-speed units serve the industrial side. Each has a remote with a 25-foot range. Use the yellow timer button when operating standalone machines or dusty power tools.
Upgraded in July 2025 with a 3.7 HP, 155 PSI pump for rapid pressure recovery.
